Update on Pastor Beder Ucanay

We received word on January 17 that Pastor Beder in Lima, Peru had taken a turn for the worse.  He has been receiving chemotherapy treatments and it is not clear whether his condition was caused by the chemo or if his general health is declining because of the cancer.  He was unable to keep food down and he apparently has lost a lot of weight.

We just received word in the last few days that Pastor Beder’s condition has improved.  However he definitely still needs our prayers as he continues to receive medical treatment.  We have sent money several times to help with his medical expenses from our emergency medical fund.  If your mission group can help with gifts to help with this expense it will be appreciated.

Assistance for Lupe Badillo

Money was sent to be used for dental work for Lupe Badillo in Labor Vieja, Mexico.  She has had some of her bad teeth pulled and additional work is being done.  Anyone wishing to help with Lupe's dental work can send a donation to LHI earmarked for that purpose.

Trip to South America

Bill Wachtel and David and Lynne Krogh will be going to Peru in April to work with Pastor Beder and other leaders in the church to make certain that effective ministry continues during Pastor Beder’s illness.  They will also travel on to Montevideo, Uruguay to visit Mauro Apolos Gonzalez who has been in contact with us for about two years.  He has been studying the Bible and shares our beliefs.  He and two others with whom he has been studying have requested baptism.  Mauro has a heart to serve the Lord and wants to expand his ministry.  We will discuss with him plans for the development of a church in Montevideo.  Mauro speaks English and Spanish.  Financial assistance for this mission trip may be sent to LHI, earmarked for South America.

Marching for Missions

Silent Auctions

When teams visit mission fields, native items are purchased and brought back to be used in silent auctions.  Auctions have been held at the annual General Conference and Christian Workers Seminar as well as a few churches.  If your church is interested in having an auction, please contact us and we will send items from several fields that can be auctioned.  The funds from these auctions will be used to help cover the expenses of mission trips. Thousands of dollars have been raised through the auctions. Please send your requests to jmlhi@aol.com or Judy Myers, 6898 E. Brick Rd., Oregon, IL 61061.

Thanks to those churches that have held auctions already.
