What is the Church
Builders League?
The Church
Builders League is a plan for sharing the cost of facilities for new
and existing churches from which the gospel of Jesus Christ and the
kingdom of God can be preached.
The Church
Builders league was organized in 1957 by action of General
Conference delegates.
Requests for
assistance are submitted to the General Conference Board of
Directors. The Board reviews each application on the basis of
standards adopted by the delegates. Church builders assistance is
used primarily for these congregations:
· New
churches to help with start up and operating expenses.
· Groups
buying or constructing church buildings which have not owned a
building previously .
· Groups
which are meeting in a building of their own that is not
specifically suitable for worshipping, and are buying or
constructing church buildings.
· Groups
relocating to a more desirable site.
· Groups
purchasing land for a new building.
· Groups
which have outgrown their present facilities and are enlarging,
buying, rebuilding, or exchanging.
· Groups
in need of serious repairs to their current facility which meet
appropriate guidelines.
Two appeals per
year are sent, in the fall and spring. Members of the League are
asked to contribute $25 or more to each appeal. At the present
time, more than 400 people and groups participate in making
contributions to each Church Builders appeal. The combined gifts of
the Church Builders League members will provide much-needed funds
for the Korean Church Conference.
Appeal #98
Pleasant Hill
Church of God - Pleasant Hill, OH - Pastor Scott Deane
The Pleasant Hill
Church of God began as a home Bible Study. In 1973, this small
group had the opportunity to purchase a building that had been
vacated by a local Church of the Brethren congregation. The
building, though built in 1903, was large and spacious for the small
congregation. Throughout our 34 years of existence, the building
has served us well. God has blessed us and many good things have
happened here.

However, the
congregation has changed over the years. In the last 10 years,
worship attendance has nearly doubled. There is also an active
Wednesday night program that draws many children from the
surrounding community. The Lord has opened many doors for us to
serve this community and to share the gospel. The building that
once seemed so large is becoming cramped. The age of the building
is starting to tell. Though we have remodeled and updated the
church, it has become clear that they can only delay the obvious.
The list of repairs seems to be growing. It no longer seems like
good stewardship to pour money into a decaying building. Our
current building, though beautiful, was built with three levels.
The many steps have become an obstacle to many and large parts of
the building are simply inaccessible for some in our congregation.
The church building is also “land-locked” and there is no
opportunity for us to expand on this site.
It was for these
reasons that the church voted to purchase 10 acres of land in May
2006 after much thought, conversation, and prayer. The new property
is located less than a mile from our current building on a busy
state route. We purchased the land for $80,000. We borrowed
$60,000 and it is our goal to have this debt paid in full by May
2008. When the land is paid, we will begin planning and arranging
the construction of a new building. Thank you for your generous
help toward meeting our goal.
