History
Atlanta Bible College
originated from the Bible Training School operated by the
National Bible Institution from 1923 until 1932 and located
in Oregon, IL. During the economic depression of the 1930s
the school was closed. In 1939 the school reopened and the
reorganized school was named Oregon Bible College in 1942.
In 1991 the college relocated from Oregon, IL to Morrow, GA
and was renamed Atlanta Bible College.
It is not clear when the Alumni
Association was formed, but publications show that it was in
existence in 1947. The current version of the Constitution
of the Association was first adopted in January 1962.
Purpose
According to the Constitution
the Association exists:
1. To maintain contacts with classmates and school and
community;
2. To preserve school traditions and build true school
spirit;
3. To improve the school plant and curriculum;
4. To do everything possible to work with the General
Conference and aid fellow association members and pastors in
their local fields;
5. To suggest and endeavor to set forth ways of personal
spiritual development;
6. To determine by survey of graduates the strengths and
weaknesses of the curricular offering of the school, in the
light of the educational and work experience of the
graduates,
Membership
The Alumni Association consists of anyone who has graduated

honorary degree, or has satisfied the requirements of the
former Bible Training School, which, according to record,

either Atlanta Bible College or Oregon Bible College. A
non-graduate shall be considered an alumnus only when his
class has been graduated.

are members. The Association fiscal years is from July 1 to
June 30, so dues become payable each July 1.
Projects
The Association is currently
raising funds for a Distance Learning project for ABC and
ABCKE. Distance Learning software has been purchased by the
college which will provide the platform for distance
learning courses. The courses will be computer based with
easy communication with the instructor, interaction with
other students, testing, and grading. The goal for this
project is $25,000. Team captains are in charge of Alumni
Association members who graduated or attended the college in
each decade. There is a competition to see which decade can
reach its assigned goal and also involve the largest
percentage of members in that decade.
Decade captains are:
1940s—Jim Mattison
1950s—Sara See
1960s—Michael Mattison
1970s—Larry Mayberry and Michael Hoffman

Meetings
The Association traditionally
meets each summer in conjunction with meetings of the Church
of God General Conference (the association of churches that
support the college) in July or August. The last meeting
was held in Oregon, IL on July 10. Click here for a copy of
the minutes of the meeting.
ABC/OBC Alumni Association
Meeting
July 10, 2009
The Atlanta/Oregon Bible College Alumni Association met at
2:00 p.m. during the 89th annual General
Conference held at the Oregon, IL Church of God with 34
members present. The meeting was called to order by David
Krogh, Secretary-Treasurer in the absence of the President
and Vice President. The President was elected to the
General Conference Board of Directors earlier in the day and
was in a Board meeting. David opened the meeting with
prayer.
It was moved by Jon Welch and Daniel Smead to approve the
reading of the minutes of the August 1, 2008 meeting. The
motion was carried.
A
copy of the treasurer’s report was distributed showing a
balance of $1,274.22 in the General Fund as of June 30,
2009. The Teleconferencing Equipment Special Project showed
a balance of $1,598 toward the goal of $25,000. It was
noted that 21 members of the Association have contributed
thus far. Russ Magaw and Hollis Partlowe moved to accept
the Treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.
It was reported that further research as been done on the
teleconferencing distance learning equipment with the
assistance of Lee McMinn and Jason Railton. It appears that
a superior product is available for less money. A pilot
project will be launched this fall. There is still a need
to raise the $25,000 that was committed by the Association.
The next item of business was the election of a
Secretary-Treasurer for a three year term. The term of
David Krogh expired at this meeting. David was nominated.
Since no additional nominations were forthcoming, Russ Magaw
and Sara See moved that the nominations be closed and that a
unanimous ballot be cast for David. Motion carried.
There was no new business to come before the Association.
It was noted that dues are $15 for a single and $25 for a
couple. The fiscal year of the Association is July 1 to
June 30, so dues for the new year are now payable. It was
also suggested that contributions for the special project
could also be made at this time.
Mark Good and Sue Hall moved to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
David Krogh, Secretary
