Joe is a 1970 graduate of Oregon Bible College. In addition to his teaching duties Joe also serves as Academic Dean. He served as pastor of churches in Front Royal, VA and Glendale, CA. He joined the ABC staff in 1991. He has graduate degrees from Arizona State University and Fuller Theological Seminary.  Joe received his Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min) from Columbia Theological Seminary.


COURSE OBJECTIVE:

This is a secondary level course on the first five books of the Bible, the Pentateuch.  It expects that an introductory survey of the Old Testament has already been done, or in the least a familiarity and fundamental reading has already been accomplished.  It will attempt to bring you into a greater appreciation of God reaching towards humanity through His Word and hopefully you will see the transition to the Living Word, Jesus Himself.   


TERMINAL COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  1. Study in Detail, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy

  2. Place emphasis on God as our Creator!

  3. Review the Great Exodus, plagues, Passover, 10 commandments, etc.

  4. Review the Law

  5. Note particulars such as the Shema, Covenants (Abrahamic, etc.)

  6. Review the Epangelia/Promises of the Messiah!

TEXTS REQUIRED:

Bible: An N. I. V.= New International Version (KJV/NASB o.k. but…the professor will be reading N.I.V.)

(90/80/70/60 see appropriate pages of catalog; p. 23)

MEMORY VERSES

The syllabus has  "recommended" verses.  Distance Learners should generally know them, but will not need to know them verbatim.


MID-TERM & FINAL:

They will be multiple choice, some short answer essay. If done verbally, time will be allowed for both the mid-term and the final in the conversations with the professor.  Testing will be done for distance learners to fit each situation. These may be done by email or other methods.
